THEY say you should never wish away time, but Warrington Wolves fans will be glad to see the back of the 2015 season.

Wolves’ campaign has long been over and a flurry of off-season activity will have the supporters eagerly anticipating the improvement promised for 2016.

Those that made the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday did their best to put on a brave face as Wolves crumbled at the foot of the Giants.

Having shown promise in the opening few minutes, the loss of both Gary Wheeler and Joel Monaghan decimated Wire’s right edge.

By the time the visitors adapted to a reshuffle it was 53 minutes in and they were 26 points down.

Against an in-form Huddersfield side heading for the play-offs, the task of Tony Smith’s rebuilding job was laid bare.

In Tom Lineham Warrington hope to find a new talisman next season, and what they would have done for a winger like Jermaine McGillvary on Sunday.

McGillvary was joint top of the Super League try-scoring charts with Hull FC’s Lineham before this outing, where the England prospect flew in for four scores.

He was aided by the visitors’ poor defence, of course, as opposite wing Aaron Murphy also enjoyed a hat-trick.

It was Murphy who opened the scoring from a long Danny Brough pass, before a McGillvary double and 100 per cent Brough boot gave them an 18-point interval advantage.

Warrington winger Kevin Penny did his best to draw something from the half for his side, but McGillvary proved equally effective at the other end when the Wolves flyer look destined to touch down from an acrobatic dive into the corner.

Warrington had to wait for Jake Connor to be sin-binned before they could enjoy a brief spell on top.

In a seven-minute, stint Ben Westwood powered over before Roy Asotasi profited from Stefan Ratchford’s clever offload close to the line.

Chris Sandow goaled the latter, but before Murphy completed his hat-trick it was the diminutive half back who found himself tasked with stopping McGillvary wide left.

He didn’t, with the winger's third and fourth either side of Murphy's treble establishing a 30-point lead for the hosts.

That became 38 when Jamie Ellis converted his own try late on, the only positive for a bedraggled Warrington being they kept a prolific Giants side out for the final eight minutes.
