FRUSTRATION crept up on Warrington as their trip to Huddersfield ended in defeat.

Phil Bentham sent four to the sin bin, while a scrap between Chris Bridge and Eorl Crabtree coincided with Giants scoring in the corner and starting the momentum swing.

Incidentally, Bridge and Crabtree stayed on – it was Anthony England, facing a four-game ban, who joined Giants' influential Danny Brough on the touchline for 10 minutes, before cards were later shown to Daryl Clark and Jake Connor.

Connor exchanged words with England, warming up on the sideline, on his way off, before pointing to the scoreboard to show what really mattered was defeat for Wolves, and not the squabbling sideshow.

Perhaps flaring tempers were borne out a frustration from the visitors that after leading this game for more than an hour they eventually ended up on the losing side.

Conditions during this (summer?) fixture didn’t help, but aside from the chaos caused every time the ball hit the turf on both sides, Huddersfield managed what Warrington could not.

That was to play some expansive rugby and provide their wingers, Jodie Broughton and Jermaine McGillvary, with good service.

In response, Joel Monaghan and Gene Ormsby saw little to boost any hopes they had of furthering their try-scoring records on Sunday afternoon.

Warrington lost the man who has been their main try-scoring threat this season early on, with Ben Currie taking a blow to the head.

Gareth O’Brien, who recovered from sending a kick off straight out for a second week running, scored a try, enjoyed a perfect conversion rate and dropped a goal before the break.

But Tony Smith’s plans took another blow when the half back was also removed due to a head injury.

O’Brien’s try came after his own grubber rebounded off Broughton into his arms and it followed an opening score for hooker Clark.

Wolves later reaped the rewards of an awkwardly bouncing Richie Myler kick on the sodden surface when Ben Harrison touched down.

But the hosts also profited, their only first-half score came when Myler and Monaghan failed to deal with a skidding kick and later Brough, moments before being binned, sent Broughton in.

Two McGillvary tries and one for young full back Jared Simpson eventually did the damage, along with two Jamie Ellis drop goals.
