We take a look at five potential options to play at half-back for The Wire next season.

There is also a poll at the bottom of this page for you to vote for who you would like to see join The Wire.

KYLE EASTMOND

Age: 28 Current club: Free agent

THIS is a deal that has been widely rumoured for some time, with some sources saying it is indeed close to completion.

Eastmond is a free agent having left rugby union side Wasps last month and is thought to be open to a return to rugby league.

He has not played the 13-man code since 2011, so will he be the same player that lit up Super League with St Helens before his switch to union?

JOE MELLOR

Age: 27 Current club: Widnes Vikings

WARRINGTON born and bred, Mellor is a former Latchford Albion junior who has continually impressed in a struggling Widnes side.

His breakthrough arguably came when he partnered Kevin Brown in the halves in 2016, so would he fancy a reunion with the former England man?

As Mellor is under contract until the end of next year, a fee would more than likely be required to bring him to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

KANE ELGEY

Age: 24 Current club: Gold Coast Titans

THIS option may seem an unlikely one as it would have unquestionable shades of the deal that brought Tyrone Roberts to the club – a deal that has ultimately brought about this discussion.

However, Elgey is off-contract and out of favour with the Titans so could fancy a move to Super League to realise his potential.

At 24, his best years are theoretically ahead of him, but he is on big money on the Gold Coast so wages could be a stumbling block.

JACKSON HASTINGS

Age: 22 Current club: Manly Sea Eagles.

HAVING been told he is unwanted by Manly, Hastings is set to turn to Super League in a bid to reignite his career.

A player of undoubted potential, he had a well-publicised falling out with Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett and teammate Daly Cherry-Evans earlier this year.

A deal to take him to Huddersfield is rumoured to be nearing completion, but will The Wire’s newfound need for a half-back throw a spanner in the works?

BLAKE AUSTIN

Age: 27                 Current club: Canberra Raiders

AUSTIN is off-contract with the Raiders at the end of 2018, with no new deal on the horizon.

As a former Dally M five-eighth of the year winner, he will not be short of offers to stay in his native Australia.

However, would a big offer from The Wire turn his head?
