BEN Westwood has issued a cheeky little reminder to England chiefs that he is still available for international duty.

And with his form in his 17th Wire season few would argue he has a case for being up to the job.

WATCH: Steve Prices says Tyrone Roberts sets benchmark

Excited and enthused by the season Warrington Wolves are having, the oldest player in Super League is looking forward to playing at the Macron Stadium in Bolton for the first time when The Wire feature in the Challenge Cup semi finals on Sunday, August 5, courtesy of knocking out Wigan Warriors yesterday.

But turning the conversation towards England’s clash with New Zealand in USA later this month, he said: “I’ve never played in Denver actually.

“For anyone out there who watched the game against Wigan, Denver’s on my bucket list.”

While admitting “I think my time’s gone for that one” Westwood, whose last of 19 senior caps came in 2013 and turns 37 next month, did have a message for England team manager Jamie Peacock.

“I think JP’s lost my number. He keeps forgetting to text me,” he said with a grin on his face.

“But yes, I haven’t done Bolton yet, so another tick in the box. It should be a great game to watch and a great game to be involved in.”

Reflecting on the momentous first home Challenge Cup win against Wigan in 82 years, Westwood said: “That’s the best performance of the year by us, and for quite a while to be honest

“We’d had a really good week in training and it’s really paid off.

“It was a big game, with some big names and big players involved, and we stepped up.

“I wouldn’t say it was a complete performance.

“There were stages in the second half where we couldn’t keep hold of the ball.

“We made five errors on the trot and give Wigan some good possession but defensively, especially our right side against a dominant Wigan left side, was fantastic.

“I thought it was by a mile Tyrone Roberts’ best game, in both defence and attack, and it shows when players like him are on top we are a really tough team to beat.”
