MIKE Cooper has been hailed as among the best props in Super League after he committed his future to The Wire.

The Warrington-born forward put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension with the club yesterday, keeping him at The Halliwell Jones Stadium until November 2020.

Cooper signs new deal with Wire

Cooper happy to continue living the dream

Cooper is in his best form since returning to The Wire from NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons ahead of the 2017 campaign, forming an effective front-row partnership with captain Chris Hill.

He has not played for England since the 2016 Four Nations, but Wire head coach Steve Price says Cooper’s current displays merit an international recall.

“I’ve had a bit to do with Coops over the years, so I know what I’m going to get with him,” he told the Guardian.

“As he’s got older, he’s certainly developed that element of leadership within himself.

“He’s one of our mainstays within the team, so it’s a great coup for us to tie Mike down for two more years.

“He’s been one of our most consistent performers this year and he’s held in high regard within our footy club.

“He loves the club, he’s been here quite a while now and I’ve been happy that he’s back to the style we all know he’s capable of.

“He’s been playing terrific football this year and he’s really enjoying himself.

“I think he’s one of the most consistent front-rowers in the competition.

“Luke Thompson has been doing a really good job at St Helens, but I’ve been really happy with what both Coops and Hilly have been dishing up.

“Hopefully he’s knocking on the door to get back in that England team in a couple of months’ time.”
