Wigan Warriors u19 28

Warrington Wolves u19 6

WOLVES Academy head coach Stuart Barrow says his players need to be smarter with the ball.

Young Wire spurned chances to cross the whitewash against at Robin Park Arena on Saturday and paid the price.

“We started both halves well and had chances to get points on the board but errors early in the tackle count meant that we were unable to make the territorial advantage count and Wigan capitalised on this and punished us," said Barrow.

"We need to be a lot smarter when we are in possession and make better choices at the end of our sets.

"You cannot afford to let a team like Wigan get on a roll as they do make you pay.

"We will be working to rectify the areas of concern before we travel to Bradford Bulls in a fortnight.”

In the end Henry Collins scored Wolves' only try, coming late in the first half to give the visitors some encouragement before turning around 12-6 behind.

Wigan had gone in front midway through the half when centre Jake Sculthorpe, son of former Warrington and St Helens loose-forward Paul, outjumped defenders to score from a kick by scrum-half Harry Smith, who converted both that effort and another from striding prop forward Joe Havard.

Collins' response came six minutes before the break.

Quick hands along the line allowed centre Cole Oakley to slip the winger over in the left corner, with full-back Joe edge converting.

Wolves camped in the Warriors half for long periods at the start of the second half but were unable to breach the line ahead of Wigan sealing their win.

Wolves were hit against the run of play when slick handling led to full-back Callum Green and Sculthorpe putting winger Cian Tyrer over in the left corner.

Then Wigan second-rower James McDonnell went down the blind side from dummy half close to the line and put Green through a huge gap to score, with Smith landing a difficult conversion.

Warriors completed the scoring 11 minutes from time when Green evaded two Wolves defenders before putting Sculthorpe over wide out. In the final minute Wolves had substitute Eribe Doro sin binned for tripping.
