STEVE Price says his Wire side’s display in the 26-0 win at Catalans yesterday was more like what he expects from his players.

In torrential rain in Perpignan, The Wire racked up their biggest victory of the season and became the first team to stop the Dragons from scoring at home in Super League.

Warrington’s record now improves to three wins from six games in 2018 and Price was pleased with how his side executed the basics to ensure the poor conditions did not affect them.

“It was such a big improvement. That’s what I expect from my Warrington Wolves team,” he said.

“It was a disciplined display of football and our completion rate was very high. I think we completed at 91 per cent in the first half and about 83 per cent for the whole game.

“We only had seven missed tackles for the whole game as well.

“To come over here and keep them scoreless in front of a hostile crowd is a superb performance from the lads.

“We’ve had a number of games this year in wet conditions and that’s been unfortunate.

“The way we like to play and the personnel we’ve got doesn’t really suit wet weather but I thought we handled the conditions superbly tonight.

“We controlled the ball and where we gave them field position was really crucial.”

The half-back partnership of Kevin Brown and Tyrone Roberts had by far their most convincing outing together at the Stade Gilbert Brutus and Price was pleased with the part they played.

“Our kicking game was first class from Kev and Tyrone,” he said.

“It will still be a few weeks until their partnership is fully polished. We’ve just got to be patient.

“As I’ve said for a number of weeks, the more times they train and play together as a spine, the better they will be.”

Skipper Chris Hill also put in a virtuoso performance in what was his 200th game for The Wire.

Price said he asked the team to give the England prop a day to remember and said they stepped up to the plate in that regard.

However, he has urged his players to back up their performance when Wakefield Trinity visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night.

“I thought Hilly was great,” he said.

“It was just really pleasing that, in our skipper’s 200th game for the club, the boys backed it up with a superb performance.

“That’s what winning teams do and it was really good that the boys put in that sort of show for Hilly.

“It’s only early days. In patches we’ve been good but we think of this as a start for us.

“We’re back at the Halliwell Jones on Friday night and it’s really important that we back it up with another strong performance.”

Price also confirmed that a knee injury kept Dom Crosby out of the game but stressed his injury was not serious.

“Dom just had a bit of a rumble with his knee. It’s not a serious injury,” he said.

“Ryan Atkins may also come into consideration next week as well.

“All the boys have pulled up pretty well. Everyone is fine.

“It was a tough game in tough conditions, but it was a very pleasing result.”
