A RAINY night in Perpignan heralded The Wire’s biggest victory of the season as they outclassed Catalans Dragons.

Mitch Brown, Daryl Clark and Ben Murdoch-Masila had Steve Price’s side in a comfortable 14-0 lead at the break in what was arguably their most controlled half of rugby this season.

Murdoch-Masila doubled his tally after the break before Harvey Livett added his name to the scoresheet late on to add the icing on the cake.

It was Steve Price’s biggest win, both in terms of result and performance, as they sent their travelling army of fans home delighted.

The Wire got off to a fantastic start and, on their third consecutive set, they went through the hands on the right edge to put Brown over for his first try for the club.

Warrington continued to control most of the possession and squeezed the hosts in defence, ensuring they did not have much in the way of territory.

They needed a second try to confirm their dominance, and they duly got it thanks to a superb piece of sniping from Clark.

After Chris Hill was halted just short of the line, the Wire hooker spotted a gap behind the ruck and dived through it to score.

While their play was far from pretty, Wolves were displaying the control that has deserted them in the past few weeks and added to it a ruthless edge when chances came.

Murdoch-Masila epitomised this for the third try when, after Kevin Brown’s kick was batted down by namesake Mitch, he was in the right place at the right time to touch down.

Both sides ended the first half with 12 men after a Fouad Yaha high tackle on Tom Lineham sparked a mass brawl, moments after Catalans were aggrieved by Clark’s tackle on Lucas Albert in the act of kicking.

After consultation with video official Ben Thaler, referee Chris Kendall sent both Yaha and Lineham to the sin bin.

The incident sparked a little more impetus from Catalans, but Wire held them out until the break.

Even with The Wire in such a commanding position, the next score was always going to be important and thankfully for the visitors, it went their way barely five minutes after the restart.

After forcing an error from the hosts deep inside their own half, Warrington set up nicely and Kevin Brown sent Murdoch-Masila crashing over from close range.

Greg Bird had a try ruled out for the hosts as Murdoch-Masila was adjudged to have been obstructed and, in truth, that was the only time Catalans had really threatened the Warrington line.

There was time for more fighting, with a scuffle this time ending in George King and the Dragons’ Michael McIlorum being yellow-carded, but it could not take the gloss off a fine result for The Wire.
