STUART Barrow said his Wolves under 19s side will learn from their loss to City of Hull in the season opener.

Young Wire head to St Helens on Sunday, kick-off 2pm at Ruskin Sports Village, on the back of the 34-18 defeat at Victoria Park Stadium.

“It was a tough start for us against a big City of Hull side," said Barrow.

"We had a very different side to the one that finished last season with seven of the 17 on duty playing their first game in under 19s rugby after moving up from under 16s.

"We played some good rugby at times, especially in the second half, but we cannot afford to give teams like City of Hull opportunities because they will punish you."

Wolves hooker Brad Pinder played a part in the three Wolves tries scored by Joe Edge and Ellis Robson, two, but Hull never trailed and four unconverted tries saw them lead 16-6 at the break.

That advantage was extended to 28-6 within seven minutes of the second half.

Two tries in four minutes from Robson, with Edge adding two more conversions, kept the contest alive.

Hull's last try 10 minutes from time settled matters.

Barrow added: "I was very pleased with some of our go-forward and we will be working hard once again in training to get ourselves ready for the trip to St Helens."
