A FORMER Wire back, who also played at Salford and coached at Wigan, has died aged 75.

Alan McInnes, who died on December 28, joined Warrington at the back end of his playing career.

He made 13 appearances for the club in the second half of the 1970-71 season after signing from Salford.

McInnes, husband of Gwyneth and father of Nicola, made two appearances at the start of the following season but then hung up his boots.

He had spent six seasons at The Willows when he joined Wire, along with Mick Hennighan, from Salford in January 1971.

His debut came at centre seven days later in a 13-7 win against Rochdale in a Challenge Cup clash at Wilderspool Stadium.

McInnes’ final appearance in primrose and blue was as a substitute at The Willows on August 20, 1971, when Salford defeated Warrington 8-6.

He scored five tries and kicked two goals in his 15 matches, 14 of them in the starting line-up.

McInnes, who had teaching spells at Kings School, Macclesfield, and Marple Hall, returned to Salford as fitness trainer.

He was twice interim coach at Salford, in 1978 and 1982, before becoming joint coach at Wigan alongside Colin Clarke in 1984.

His funeral service will take place at St Peter’s Church, Prestbury, on Wednesday, January 17 followed by a private interment.
