WOLVES have added to their squad with the signing of hot prospect Luis Johnson from Castleford Tigers.

The 18-year-old back rower, who joins for a £45,000 transfer fee, was named man of the series for England Academy, coached by Wire assistant Lee Briers, in their recent two-game tour of France.

Johnson, a former Oulton Raiders junior, also featured in the Tigers’ under 19s Grand Final team when they lost out to Wigan Warriors this year.

“I am really excited to be signing for the Warrington Wolves, especially at a time when the club has a new coaching set up and fresh ideas,” Johnson said.

“The next four years are going to be big for me, I am looking forward to working under Lee Briers again after my time with England Academy.

“I can’t wait to get over to Warrington and get stuck in with the boys.”

Briers says Johnson’s capture is a “huge coup” for The Wire and says he is looking forward to helping him grow into a Super League player.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Luis and was really impressed by his attitude, his understanding of the game and willingness to work and learn,” he said.

“I see massive potential in him, he is definitely one to watch.

“His signing is a huge coup for the club and I am looking forward to working with him and watching him grow and develop in to a Super League player.”

Wolves head coach Steve Price added: “Luis is a great young talent who is held in high regard in the English rugby league community.

“We were attracted to him by his powerful attacking skills along with his strong, aggressive defence.

“Luis will be a great addition to the 2018 squad and we still have the potential to bring in one more player.”

Johnson has been given squad number 24.
