SCOTLAND miss out on the Rugby League World Cup quarter finals at Samoa's expense.

And that means Warrington Wolves winger Matty Russell will soon be on his way home.

Few had given the Bravehearts a chance after their two previous performances in the tournament resulted in heavy losses against highly fancied Tonga and New Zealand in Pool B.

And that view was heightened by skipper Danny Brough, Sam Brookes and Johnny Walker being sent home in disgrace after being too drunk to fly from New Zealand to Australia to prepare for today's game at Barlow Park in Cairns.

But Bravehearts by name, Bravehearts by nature as Scotland drew 14-14 with Samoa, bowing out of the tournament on points difference.

Scotland were never behind.

Russell played a key role for the Scots, producing numerous offloads from his dummy-half scoots to help his side dominate territory for long periods of the game.

But it wasn't to be in the end.
