STEVE Price says he has the men in place to turn Warrington Wolves’ fortunes around.

The Wire’s new head coach, whose arrival on Thursday was in time to lead the squad’s return to pre-season training this week, feels the new faces on and off the field are the right blend for success after a season in which Wolves skidded down a slippery slope.

Price, formerly the assistant at Cronulla Sharks, indicated targeting an ‘outside back’, though has not confirmed rumours of interest in Sale Sharks’ former Wigan and England winger Josh Charnley.

A chase for Canberra Raiders’ Papua New Guinea hooker Kurt Baptiste appears to have gone cold but Price’s changing of the guard does include Andrew Henderson as his right-hand man alongside Lee Briers, Kylie Leuluai as head of rugby operations plus Tyrone Roberts (scrum half), Bryson Goodwin (centre) and forwards Ben Murdoch-Masila and Sitaleki Akauola.

Price, head coach at St George Illawarra Dragons between 2012 and 2014, says experience taught him requirements when putting together his coaching team, which also includes Jon Clarke continuing as head of strength and conditioning.

“It’s good to have different personalities and different make-ups and I feel like I’ve got that right,” he said.

“Andrew has been successful as head coach at London Broncos and coming through the Championship league system.

“Briersy has been a fantastic player over here and a legend of the game. Jon Clarke is different again to those two, and then there’s Kylie as our footy manager from the highly successful Leeds club.

“It’s important you get good men around you in your organisation – men who care, men who are hard working and want to strive to be the best.”

He added: “I’m pleased with the squad and how it’s come together.

“We’ve still got one position available, so that’s where we’re up to.

“I definitely feel we’ve got a lot of positions filled that we needed to.”

The 39-year-old says all focus now is on the pre-season work programmed for the next seven weeks.

“Our main concern is what we can control now and that’s delivering on the pitch every day, being the best you can be each day, growing as people, as a team and as a club while building the culture – the standards and values we’ve outlined to the group,” he said.

“After Christmas we’ll reassess. I’m just really looking forward to sinking my teeth in and giving The Wire fans a club and a footy team that they can be really proud of when they watch.”
