WOLVES have appointed Andrew Henderson as assistant to new head coach Steve Price, while Lee Briers will remain in his role as assistant first-team coach.

Henderson joins The Wire from London Broncos, where he was head coach for the past three seasons.

The former Castleford and Sheffield hooker has gained a reputation as one of the English game’s most promising young coaches.

His Broncos side played an attractive brand of rugby league and have finished second in the Championship during the past two seasons.

Henderson’s London side gave Warrington an almighty scare in the 2017 Middle 8s, with The Wire eventually winning 40-38 at Trailfinders Sports Ground.

Price says he has first-hand experience of how talented a coach Henderson is.

"Andrew has played Rugby League across a number of clubs in England," he said.

"He’s always been enthusiastic and meticulous with his preparation, and I saw that first hand when Cronulla played an exhibition game against the London Broncos ahead of the World Club Challenge.

"He comes to us on the back of a great season down at the Broncos and I am excited to be working alongside him.

"His experience within the game gives him a lot to offer the performance team here at Warrington."

Wolves chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick says the appointment of Henderson completes an "impressive and smart" coaching team.

"Andrew has done a fantastic job at London Broncos and is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the game," he said.

"I’ve really admired how he coaches his teams with the expansive manner in which they play.

"We saw first hand in the Qualifiers the quality ball movement he promotes and how he gets the best from his players.

"In Andrew, Steve and Lee (Briers) I think we’ve built an impressive, smart Rugby League coaching team that will leave no stone unturned to help us achieve success."
