KURT Gidley says Wolves must improve their “unacceptable” recent defence in tomorrow’s Middle 8s clash with Featherstone.

The Wire have a 100 per cent record in the Qualifiers with five wins from as many games, but the victories do not tell the full story.

In each of their past two games, against Leigh Centurions and London Broncos, Wolves have conceded more than 30 points, something Gidley says is “not on.”

The veteran Australian, who is retiring at the end of the campaign, says Warrington “cannot be proud” of their past two performances as a result of their defensive frailties.

“Defensively, it hasn’t been acceptable to let in the amount of points we have against London and Leigh,” he said.

“Letting teams score 30 points is not on, it doesn’t matter who you are playing.

“You can’t expect to be proud of your performance when that happens so we need to fix that up for the last couple.”

Gidley has featured at dummy-half in his two games since returning from a small fracture in his fibula, coming off the bench at London before starting against Leigh last week.

The 35-year-old says he is now determined to enjoy everything about his final two weeks as a professional rugby league player.

“I feel like I’ve added a bit since coming back, especially coming off the bench at London,” he said.

“I just wanted to get through that game unscathed but now I just want to enjoy the last couple of games.

“Even the final training runs I’ve got, I want to enjoy all the time I’ve got left.

“The hardest part of being injured is having to watch your teammates play and not being able to help out.

“It turned out to be a small fracture and there’s nothing you can do with that other than rest.

“I missed a few weeks but I was always planning on being back for the last four games, which has happened.

“It’ll be nice to finish off with a couple more wins.”
