ANDRE Savelio says he sees himself returning to Warrington Wolves once his spell in the NRL comes to an end.

The 22-year-old will leave The Wire at the end of the season after signing a two-year deal with Australian giants Brisbane Broncos.

It brings Savelio’s brief time with his hometown club to an end after arriving from St Helens prior to the start of 2017.

However, the second-rower says he still has unfinished business at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“I’d love to return. There’s certainly a good chance I’ll be back at some point,” he said.

“It will always play on my mind that I’ve never won a Grand Final here. That was something I wanted to do before I went and that was the plan when I signed for the club.

“Obviously, it’s not worked out that way for us but I’ve really enjoyed my time here under Tony Smith.

“I’ve met some friends for life and I’d definitely be open to coming back to challenge for trophies again.”

After bursting onto the scene by scoring three tries in his first two league games for the club, Savelio has been in and out of Tony Smith’s team this season.

However, recent weeks have seen him show signs of the ability that won him the Albert Goldthorpe Rookie of the Year award in 2015.

The former Cardinal Newman High School pupil thinks sorting out his future has played a part in his upturn in form.

“You learn a lot more from your struggles than you do from your successes. I’ve learnt a lot about myself this year,” he said.

“It will stand me in good stead for the future, it’s been a tough year but I’ve enjoyed it.

“You could say getting the Brisbane deal done has cleared my mind a bit, it’s definitely part of it.

“The main thing was wanting to end my time here well because of the friends and bonds I’ve made with the lads here.

“We all want to finish the year strong and carry something into next year.”

Savelio’s best performances in primrose and blue have been when he has injected energy into the pack from the bench.

He has played in the front row as well as his more natural second-row position this year, but the former St Helens man says he does not mind where he plays.

“Even when I’m sat on the bench, I won’t be 100 per cent sure where I’m going on to play!” he said.

“I’ll do whatever Tony wants, I’m happy to play anywhere.

“Whether it’s prop or second-row, or wherever really, I’ll stick my hand up and try to do a job.”

Barring any last-minute injury, Savelio will be involved in Saturday’s home game against Halifax as Warrington aim for a sixth straight win.

This will be the first time in their inaugural Middle 8s campaign that The Wire have come up against Championship opposition, having beaten fellow Super League sides Widnes Vikings and Catalans Dragons so far.

Savelio says he and his teammates have to be aware of ’Fax’s extra motivation.

“Most teams are going to come to our place a bit more fired up than usual,” he said.

“They will all want to get one over on us, especially on our own turf.

“We’ve underachieved this year, there’s no hiding from that. We’re in good form now but they will be wanting to knock us off our stride.”
