WOLVES winger Matty Russell has been included in Scotland’s provisional squad for this year’s Rugby League World Cup.

The Ayrshire-born 24-year-old is one of 36 players chosen by Bravehearts coach Steve McCormack for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Russell has eight caps for his country, the last of them coming in the memorable 18-18 draw with New Zealand in last year’s Four Nations.

Scotland will face the Kiwis again in the World Cup after being drawn alongside them in Pool B, with Samoa and Tonga completing the section.

Russell’s side play their first game against Tonga on October 29 in Cairns, with the top three sides in the pool going through to the quarter finals.
