TONY Smith says Wolves’ medical staff are “not too concerned” about Ben Currie despite him coming off injured in tonight’s 22-6 win over Widnes Vikings.

The 23-year-old has just returned from a serious knee injury that kept him out for 10 months and injured the same knee during the win at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Currie did not feature in the second half of The Wire’s victory and Smith said the second rower could have played on but it was decided he would not be risked.

“Ben Currie is alright. He's got strapping on his knee just to keep the swelling down.

"He's got a bit of a tweak but the medics aren't too concerned.

"He could have gone back out for the second half but we decided it wasn't worth the risk.

"I'm pretty confident he'll be okay for the first Middle 8s game.”

Skipper Chris Hill sat out the game with a hamstring injury and Smith said the situation was similar for the prop.

“Hilly tightened up yesterday but we didn't want to take a chance on it.

"He turned up today wanting to play but he'll be back for the next game.”
