WARRINGTON Wolves are appealing the decision of the independent operational rules tribunal last night when Ben Westwood was issued with a three-match ban.

The case Wire chiefs are making surrounds the severity of the suspension, and the Grade D offence, as the former England international forward pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw on Danny Tickle in the eighth minute of last week's 50-10 defeat of Leigh Centurions.

“It’s the grading of it really, in comparison to some other tackles that we’ve seen throughout the course of the year and felt it was quite severe,” said Wolves' head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith.

Wolves expect to hear more tonight and have withdrawn Westwood from the 19-man squad to face Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium tomorrow.

“Brad Dwyer will come into the 19,” said Smith.

Hooker Dwyer's place in the 19 was originally taken by the returning Ben Currie.
