THEIR place in the Middle 8s may have been confirmed, but Leigh Centurions still have plenty left to play for.

Following a heart-breaking, last-minute defeat at Catalans last time out, Leigh sit bottom of Super League with just 10 points from their 20 games.

However, Neil Jukes’ side will be desperate to avoid finishing bottom for reasons of pride and practicality.

Finishing in 11th or 12th position could mean two trips to France to face the Dragons and Toulouse in the next phase, something no team wants to do in the height of summer.

Beating Wolves today and closing to just two points behind them would be a fine start on that score.

Leythers will be buoyed by the fact one of their five victories in Super League this season was at the expense of The Wire after earning a comfortable 22-8 win at Leigh Sports Village on March 16.

They will also be boosted by the availability of two new players and one familiar face.

Jukes has strengthened in the pivots by signing Daniel Mortimer and Samisoni Langi from Cronulla Sharks and Penrith Panthers respectively.

Both are included in Jukes’ 19-man squad and are set for their debuts at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

However, it is the return of skipper Mickey Higham that is perhaps the headline in their squad announcement.

The veteran hooker will make his first return to The Halliwell Jones Stadium since leaving The Wire for his home town club in 2015 after a sparkling spell in primrose and blue that saw him win three Challenge Cups.

Higham is returning to the Centurions squad after a three-and-a-half-month injury absence, while prop James Green and on-loan Hull FC winger Nick Rawsthorne are recalled.

Jukes will be missing two of his key performers through suspension in the shape of prop Jamie Acton and centre Ben Crooks.

Acton faces a ban of at least eight games after being hit with a Grade F charge of Other Contrary Behaviour from the RFL after grabbing a seemingly-unconscious Greg Bird by the collar.

The prop’s disciplinary hearing was adjourned until next week on the proviso that he would not feature for Leigh against The Wire.

Crooks’ Grade B charge of punching from the Catalans game saw him handed a one-match ban.

Centurions squad: Mitch Brown, Lachlan Burr, Matty Dawson, Josh Drinkwater, James Green, Adam Higson, Harrison Hansen, Micky Higham, Liam Hood, Sam Hopkins, Samisoni Langi, Antoni Maria, Daniel Mortimer, Cory Paterson, Ben Reynolds, Nick Rawsthorne, Glenn Stewart, Danny Tickle, Atelea Vea.
