WOLVES have suffered another season-ending injury.

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith has no ruled out Toby King for the rest of the year.

King, sidelined with a hamstring injury, was hoping to be back in action at the start of July but his recovery has not gone as planned.

The right-centre position continues to be a huge problem for Wolves, who had Stefan Ratchford and Jack Hughes there for spells against Castleford while they lost left-centre Matty Blythe to a knee injury just three minutes into today’s game.

Smith said: "Toby’s hamstring hasn't been repairing as well or as quickly as we would have expected, so he'll probably go under the knife and have an operation to repair it which will mean the end of his season for us.

"Centres are an issue for us at the moment. We've had to move Stefan from full-back to play centre for us, and the number of centres we're missing has hurt us a bit in recent times.

"We had to recall Matty Blythe and now he's got injured, so it's a bit of a bogey position for us at the moment.”

Ryan Atkins was also sidelined today but he, Kurt Gidley and Kevin Brown could be back for Saturday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Wigan Warriors, who are expecting a string of their top-line players to return too.

"We'll work it out, get something sorted at centre because it's a really important game for us against Wigan,” said Smith.

"I'm glad there was some character about us today. There's still some spirit, we've got some desire to do well and it's a big week for us.

"Wigan are not having the best of times themselves so it's a good opportunity for both teams to get out there and show what they're made of."
