IT is incredible what rugby league players put their body through!

And sometimes they just simply go beyond what almost all human beings could cope with.

This week, Warrington Wolves stalwart Ben Westwood has a hand in a cast after breaking it in the 24-24 draw with Wigan Warriors during the Magic Weekend round at St James' Park in Newcastle on Saturday.

But yet he sustained the injury in the opening minutes of one of the most physical clashes of any season - and played on!

It would seem likely he will be sidelined until the second or third weekend of July.

“He broke it in the first little while of the game and played on with it, as Bennie does. He’s a tough boy," said Wolves' head of coaching and rugby.

“He’s had it scanned and is in a pot for six weeks, back playing in seven, which is the best outcome we could have expected.

"He kept saying he’ll be all right and when he finally came off for a rest he talked to us about it.

"When Benjamin Jullien ran out of petrol, Bennie put his other hand up to go back out there. He’s a warrior.

"It’s mind-blowing. Most players carry something of some sorts at some stage. They’re all warriors, but some of them have got that bit extra.

“He’s a good solid player for us and fills all sorts of areas, in the middle or on the edges. He’s reliable, you know you’re going to get a tough game out of him.

"I feel for Bennie because he was getting back to some form after probably a disjointed start to the season. We'll get him back in seven weeks."
