WOLVES will be looking for their fourth Super League win in a row when they welcome Wakefield Trinity to The Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow.

The Wire’s overall record against the Yorkshiremen is a good one, with 25 of their 40 Super League meetings being won by the men in primrose and blue.

Here, we take a look back at the last five occasions in which these two sides have crossed paths, including a memorable afternoon in Leigh…

WAKEFIELD 10 WOLVES 38: Sunday, August 14, 2016:

TONY Smith described his side’s performances as “not terrific but OK” as Wolves got their Super 8s campaign off the ground.

After falling behind to Jonny Molloy’s early try, Ben Currie, Ryan Atkins and Chris Hill all crossed to give The Wire a 16-6 half-time lead.

Matty Russell scored twice after the break, while Daryl Clark and Joe Westerman also got on the scoresheet to make Judah Mazive’s try for the hosts immaterial.

Wolves: Stefan Ratchford; Rhys Evans, Toby King, Ryan Atkins, Matty Russell; Kurt Gidley, Chris Sandow; Chris Hill, Daryl Clark, Ashton Sims, Jack Hughes, Ben Currie, Joe Westerman. Subs: Brad Dwyer, Ben Westwood, George King, Sam Wilde.

WOLVES 56 WAKEFIELD 12: Saturday, July 30, 2016:

TWO weeks prior to their meeting in the Super 8s, Wolves avoided their fourth Challenge Cup semi-final defeat in a row with arguably their best performance of the season.

Craig Hall’s try once again gave Wakefield an early head start, but Wolves responded with 52 unanswered points to book their place at Wembley.

Jack Hughes, Daryl Clark, Rhys Evans and Kurt Gidley touched down before the break before The Wire killed their hosts off with a 17-minute, four-try blitz as Chris Sandow, Stefan Ratchford, Ben Currie and Toby King all crossed.

Max Jowitt gave the suffering Wakefield fans something to cheer with a consolation effort, but Ben Westwood and King’s second rounded off a memorable day for The Wire.

WAKEFIELD 36 WOLVES 28: Sunday, May 15, 2016:

WOLVES came close to overcoming numerous setbacks and masking a below-par performance with a victory at Belle Vue.

They had trailed 30-6 early in the second half, with Joe Westerman’s try the only response they could muster to two efforts each from Matty Ashurst and Craig Hall plus one from Tom Johnstone.

However, Westerman’s second and further scores from Matty Russell, Daryl Clark and Kurt Gidley made the score 32-28 with five minutes to go and two Wakefield players, ex-Wire Anthony England and Danny Kirmond, in the sin bin.

Kevin Penny was stopped inches short of a winning try, tearing his hamstring in the process. He attempted to continue his defensive duties, but Wakefield ruthlessly exploited his lack of mobility, sending a grubber kick behind him for Ben Jones-Bishop to seal the win.

Wolves: Matty Russell; Tom Lineham, Rhys Evans, Ryan Atkins, Kevin Penny; Kurt Gidley, Joe Westerman; Chris Hill, Daryl Clark, Ashton Sims, Benjamin Jullien, Ben Currie, Ben Westwood. Subs: Jordan Cox, Joe Philbin, George King, Morgan Smith.
