WHILE their Easter period proved to be a disappointing one, Wakefield Trinity are well on the way to ensuring last year’s top-eight finish was no fluke.

Chris Chester’s side have continued to surprise after many tipped them for a Middle 8s campaign this time around after a poor end to 2016 and an off-season dogged by off-field issues.

Despite agreeing to remain at their Belle Vue home for another year, uncertainty still remains over where the club will play beyond 2017.

On the field, Chester’s side have not let anything bother them and have flown somewhat under the radar.

After losing their opening two league games, Trinity won five of their next six to give them a cushion inside the top eight.

Easter losses to Castleford and Wigan have dented their hopes somewhat and defeat to Wolves on Saturday would see the gap between the sides narrow to a single point.

There are plenty of players in Chester’s squad, however, who will have a big say in the matter.

In the halves, the all-Australian partnership of Jacob Miller and new arrival Sam Williams give them a solid base to work from as well as a kicking game which is often pinpoint.

Further back, wingers Tom Johnstone and Ben Jones-Bishop provide most of their try-scoring threat, while David Fifita will be a handful up front.

ONE TO WATCH – Tom Johnstone:

AMID speculation that Super League’s big clubs may be readying a move, Trinity moved quickly to tie their brightest prospect down to a new four-year deal.

Having won the competition’s Young Player of the Year award last year, the 21-year-old has started 2017 in fine form and has already crossed for six tries.
