WOLVES boss Tony Smith described Wolves’ 26-24 victory over Huddersfield Giants as “a second game after Easter performance.”

Tries from Harvey Livett, Daryl Clark, Kurt Gidley, Rhys Evans and Toby King helped The Wire to record maximum points over Easter for the first time since 2010.

Huddersfield stayed in the game with tries from Darnell McIntosh, Jake Mamo, Danny Brough and a last-minute effort from Jermaine McGillvary.

Brough, who also kicked two penalties, saw a conversion attempt after the final hooter sail wide after McGillvary’s try gave them hope of snatching a draw.

“It was ugly but its two points. It wasn't the prettiest but we hung on,” Smith said.

“There was way too much toing and froing for me to enjoy it.

“It's been a while since we won both games over Easter. Because of where we have been placed in the table, it was important for us to pick up two points.”

“It was very much a second game over Easter performance from both teams.”

Victory at The Halliwell Jones Stadium was Wolves third victory in a row and it came just four days after Thursday’s 19-10 victory over Widnes.

Smith believes the Easter period has taken a lot out of his side and has claimed another injury absentee in the shape of Mike Cooper, who went off in the first half with a head injury.

However, the Wire boss did confirm Ryan Atkins, Matty Russell and Kevin Brown should be fit to return for Saturday’s game against Wakefield Trinity.

“The big men looked tired today but our back three were really good today,” he said.

"Rhys Evans had his strongest game for a long time and Stef saved our bacon on a few occasions.

"There were mistakes made that I've got to put down to fatigue but it was gutsy. We're digging in for one another at the moment.

“The other night we played with 15 players for more than half the game. That fatigues players.

"Today we went for over half the game with 16 players.

"Coops will miss out automatically for next week but Ryan Atkins, Matty Russell and Kevin Brown should be available.

"We'll have to take care of the guys in the next few days. This is also the period of time where we need to step up and string a few more together.”
