DO not be surprised to see Kurt Gidley playing hooker for Warrington Wolves again.

He featured in the role for around 30 minutes either side of half time in the 19-10 win at Widnes Vikings on Friday night.

It was a move made by head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith on the back of Daryl Clark’s absence and Brad Dwyer needing a rest midway through a rare starting appearance.

“Gids looked really good at hooker,” said Smith.

“I thought he controlled that really well when he went in there. I liked it.

“He gave us a bit of control we needed at the time and a bit of variation in there.

“At times I didn’t think we played enough footy. I thought Gids broke that up a bit.”

It was the first period of time Gidley has played at hooker for The Wire but the position is not alien to him, having played there for Newcastle Knights in the NRL and at representative level with New South Wales and Australia.
