TONY Smith has ruled out two of his starting 13 from the Widnes Vikings win for East Monday's home clash with Huddersfield Giants.

Both Matty Russell and Ryan Atkins will sit the game out with head injuries, but should return for the following weekend's date with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Darryl Clark (calf) and Joe Westerman (neck), who were surprise absentees against Widnes after being named in the 19-man squad, are doubts for Monday, while Mike Cooper (ankle) has a better chance of a return.

Smith, Wolves' head of coaching and rugby, said: “Those three have chances, Cooper is probably the strongest of those. They’ll put their hand up if they can.

“Clark has a bit of calf. He’s a tough kid and will put his hand up to play but whether it’s the smart thing or right thing to do, we’ll see.

"He’s more likely to be the following weekend but he’s told me to keep an open mind.

“Joe’s got a bit of neck from last week against Leeds.

"He came off with that right near the end. If that settles down, he’s a chance for Monday.

"Cooper will play on Monday if he’s able to, if he gets the clearance.”

Jack Johnson, Sam Wilde and Matty Blythe could come into consideration.

Smith has ruled out Kevin Brown for the Easter period.
