THE first game of the Easter weekend sees Wolves make the short trip to take on neighbours Widnes Vikings.

Having moved off the bottom of the Super League table, The Wire will be looking for four points from their two games this weekend to move further clear of danger.

However, a maximum Easter haul is something they have only done once, in 2010, since Tony Smith took over at the club.

Wolves have a good recent record against Widnes and won all four games against them last year.

We take a short trip down memory lane to look at the last five meetings between these two near neighbours.

WOLVES 30 WIDNES 12: Friday, September 9, 2016:

AFTER energy-sapping games in the Challenge Cup Final and away at Catalans, Wolves could have been forgiven for being a bit leggy.

However, an electrifying first-half display earned them victory as tries from Chris Hill, Ashton Sims and Morgan Smith gave them an 18-0 lead at the break.

Joe Philbin and Matty Russell crossed after the interval, as did Joe Mellor and Corey Thompson for Vikings.

Wolves: Stefan Ratchford; Rhys Evans, Toby King, Ryan Atkins, Matty Russell; Kurt Gidley, Dec Patton; Chris Hill, Brad Dwyer, Ashton Sims, Jack Hughes, Ben Currie, George King. Subs: Sam Wilde, Morgan Smith, Joe Philbin, Ryan Bailey.

Brad Dwyer and Charly Runciman swapped scores to level the game at 18-18 before Kurt Gidley’s late penalty put Wolves into the last four.

Kevin Penny, Joe Westerman and Stefan Ratchford all scored twice as The Wire ran riot, with Kurt Gidley and Ben Westwood also crossing.

Joe Mellor, Corey Thompson and Stefan Marsh got on the scoresheet for Widnes, but they never looked like reeling in their neighbours.

THE 250th meeting between the two sides saw both teams coming into the game in red-hot form.

Widnes took a 10-0 lead early on through Tom Gilmore and Rhys Hanbury, but Wolves never looked back once Chris Sandow and Tom Lineham had dragged them level by the break.

Kurt Gidley, Ryan Atkins and Ben Currie crossed in the second half to ensure The Wire sent the majority of a sold-out Halliwell Jones Stadium crowd home happy.

WOLVES 22 WIDNES 20: Sunday, May 13, 2015:

JOEL Monaghan’s last-gasp try settled this pulsating derby when it looked like Widnes had snatched the points.

The Australian’s first effort, along with scores from Gene Ormsby and Daryl Clark, had The Wire 14-4 up at the break, with Jack Owens replying for the visitors.

Widnes fought back through two Kevin Brown tries and one from Paddy Flynn to put them in control at 20-14 up.

However, after Ben Westwood had narrowed the gap, Monaghan squeezed over in the corner with just 20 seconds left on the clock.
