GIVEN all circumstances, including form of the opposition, we reckon there have been five worse performances than last night's loss to Leigh Centurions during the Tony Smith era.

Treating the one game in isolation, rather than as a fifth loss in a sequence and that buoyant Super League new boys Leigh had won their previous two games against St Helens and Huddersfield, let us know if you agree or disagree.

In chronological order, the five games are:

1)

Harlequins 60 Wolves 8, March 14, 2009 - the day Wolves hit rock bottom. Although appointed in the week leading up to the previous round's 20-14 home loss to Leeds, this was the first game in which Smith had prepared the team since taking over from James Lowes. It was Harlequins' first home win of the year. Wolves went on to win their next three games.

2)

Hull KR 40 Wolves 16, September 5, 2009 - a week after the Challenge Cup Final victory over Huddersfield at Wembley. This was the toughest call of our selected five, but The Wire were a dismal shadow of the side that won at Wembley and Rovers didn't win again that year.

3)

Salford 48 Wolves 24, June 29, 2012 - one of only nine Salford wins that season and they ripped a flimsy Wire apart before managing only one more victory in the rest of the season. The Wire went on to win their next six games, the Challenge Cup and reach their first Grand Final.

4)

London Broncos 62 Wolves 18, August 17, 2012 - The Wire were embarrassed a week before their last Challenge Cup Final success at Wembley. It was one of only nine wins for the capital outfit that year, coming after Smith made a stack of changes with an eye on the cup final.

5)

Wolves 6 Widnes Vikings 16, August 15, 2013 - in monsoon conditions, 12-man Vikings, after Hep Cahill's dismissal, made Grand Final-bound Warrington look very ordinary just a fortnight after they had been hammered 72-10 at Hull FC. The Wire won their next four before falling to Wigan at Old Trafford.
