Wigan Warriors Reserves 40 Warrington Wolves Reserves 10.

WOLVES’ reserves failed to make the most of a good start on Sunday as they were comfortably beaten by their Wigan counterparts.

Early tries from Danny Rasool and Benjamin Jullien had got Lee Briers’ side off to the perfect start, but the hosts kept them off the scoresheet in the second half.

Briers was able to field the likes of Jullien, Dec Patton, Jack Johnson and Sam Wilde and they were on the board after just four minutes when a Wigan handling error led to Tyler Whittaker sending Rasool over on the right, with Patton adding the conversion.

Whittaker was influential early on and it was his pass that allowed Jullien to cross despite the attention of four defenders.

Sadly, however, that was as good as it got for Wolves as Wigan had their noses in front before the break thanks to two converted tries from Luke Waterworth.

After an attritional start to the second period, Callum Field crashed over for Wigan before a fumble in their own in-goal area by Wolves resulted in Joe Pilling giving the hosts more security.

Josh Ganson finished off a break straight from the restart as Wolves began to tire before Josh Houghton and Tom Davies scored late on to seal Wigan’s win.

The next fixture for Briers’ side comes on Saturday, March 25, when they travel to Hull FC.
