FOOTBALL priority at the DW Stadium in Wigan means a late switch for the Warrington Wolves versus Castleford Tigers match to be televised.

Due to the current state of the DW Stadium pitch, following Storm Doris, Wigan Athletic's Championship clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday will take priority and therefore the Wigan Warriors versus Widnes Vikings game has been postponed.

This means Wolves' Super League Round Two battle with Castleford Tigers at The Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow night, Friday, will be televised instead.

The Latics and Forest are currently battling against relegation.

Wigan Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan said: “With the inclement weather over the last day resulting in intermittent standing water on the pitch and the further forecasted bad weather over the next 24 hours, the DW Stadium pitch simply cannot sustain two games this weekend.

“With Wigan Athletic’s season at such a critical stage and after detailed discussions between myself and Wigan Athletic chairman, David Sharpe, it was agreed that they need to play this fixture more than we need to play ours.

“Potential for the game to be moved to Sunday was discussed but this simply isn’t an option with the pitch in its current state, therefore the game will be rescheduled for later this season."

It leaves Widnes without a fixture for the second successive week, having not been in action last weekend due to the World Club Series.
