WOLVES boss Tony Smith is confident his side will be better off with Kurt Gidley at full-back after confirming the Australian would drop back against Brisbane Broncos tomorrow night.

Having played in the halves for most of his Wolves career, including last week’s opening day defeat to Catalans, Gidley makes the switch to full-back to allow Kevin Brown to make his debut at stand-off alongside Dec Patton.

Rhys Evans will move inside to the centres, while Matty Russell will fill his spot on the wing and Smith believes the team has a good balance to it.

“It is a reshuffle but it’s a necessary one and it’s been forced upon us,” he said.

“I expect we’ll gain a lot so it’s fine. Gids is equally happy in the halves or at full-back so there’s no problem with that.

“It’s not a position he’s unaccustomed to, he played a lot of that in the NRL.

“He feels comfortable and we’ve trained very well that way this week. The players have looked good and sharp.

“We’ve had a good week, there was some things we needed to improve on from our last performance and that will be our focus.

“The players have been terrific this week in their approach to the game and how they’ve trained so I’m very encouraged.”

Smith also called upon the Wire fans to create a special atmosphere at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and hoped the English weather would also play its part.

“It’ll be a great atmosphere with a lot of our supporters will be cheering us on,” he said.

“Hopefully it’s a bit cold, wet and windy, all those things that the Broncs aren’t used to!

“It’s an honour and privilege to be part of such an occasion and it’s a great opportunity for us.

“There’s lots of players who will never play against an Australian club so this is a fantastic opportunity. We understand the importance of representing Super League and Britain well.”
