THERE can be no doubt that Brisbane Broncos are one of the most iconic names in rugby league, despite a relatively short history.

They have been perennial challengers in the Australian game almost without exception since their formation in 1987, while some of the game’s greats have worn their colours.

Today, their roster is packed with international quality and threats from all over the park that Wolves must be aware of.

Kodi Nikorima, the diminutive New Zealand half-back, terrorised Wigan in last year’s World Club Series, while countryman Benji Marshall has shown for years that he is capable of the spectacular.

And that is who has been left behind!

Among those that are in England include Kangaroos regulars Darius Boyd, Sam Thaiday and Matt Gillett, while Anthony Milford and Ben Hunt have worn the Green and Gold at various levels in the past.

If any guidance about Wolves’ style is needed, Bennett could always turn to Jason Demetriou, his assistant coach who knows plenty about The Wire from his many years in Super League with Wakefield.

HISTORY:

DESPITE only being formed in 1987, the Broncos have become one of the more successful Australian clubs in the modern era.

They have won the NRL Premiership six times since their inception, with their last Grand Final victory coming in 2006.

Until 2015, they had a prestigious record of never losing a Grand Final and two of their wins came at the expense of a St George side that included Wolves boss Tony Smith.

In addition, they have been minor premiers four times and World Club Challenge winners twice, beating Wigan in 1992 and Hunter Mariners in 1997.

Some of the game’s most iconic names have represented them over the years, including Warrington legend Allan Langer who played 240 times for the Queenslanders.

Wally Lewis, one of only eight men to have been named as one of rugby league’s “Immortals”, played for them between 1988 and 1990.

Darren Lockyer spent his whole career there, while Steve Renouf and Petero Civoniceva will also be recognisable names from the Broncos’ past.

ONE TO WATCH - Darius Boyd:

AFTER watching from the wing as Billy Slater shone at full-back for Australia for years, Darius Boyd is now the world champions’ undisputed number one.

Life at club level will not have been much better either for the 29-year-old after he was named captain of the club where he started his career.
