WOLVES will swap around their outside backs on Saturday when they take on Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Series, kick off 8pm.

The Wire welcome Wayne Bennett’s side to The Halliwell Jones Stadium having lost centre Toby King to a hamstring injury for up to four weeks.

Wolves head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith says that will mean a few positional changes in his line-up to face the Broncos.

He hinted that Rhys Evans would return to the centres and Matty Russell could be moved to the wing from full-back.

“We’ll have to have a shuffle round and see what the best options are for us,” he said.

“Matty Russell was struggling at full-back last week. It’s probably an opportunity for Rhys to go back into the centres and Matty to go back to the wing.

“Losing Toby doesn’t make it easy for us but we’ll see what we can come up with.”

With Stefan Ratchford injured and Jack Johnson not included in Smith’s 19-man squad, Kurt Gidley looks set to drop back to fill the void.

Although he has spent the majority of his time at Wolves in the halves, the former Australia international spent most of his 15 years at previous club Newcastle Knights at full-back.

This will allow new signing Kevin Brown, fit again after a hamstring injury, to slot in at stand-off for his Wire debut alongside Dec Patton.

Veteran forward Ben Westwood is also set to line up against the Broncos after completing his recovery from pectoral and shoulder surgery.

Smith thinks the returning duo can add plenty to a Wolves attack that was lacking in the 20-12 defeat to Catalans Dragons in their first Super League game of the season.

“Bennie is rough and tough, he plays direct will get you going forward,” he said.

“You’d hope Browny would kick us round the park well.

“He’s got some spark in his play, he might just ignite some more opportunities in attack and we need some of that at the moment.

“We need a performance, it’s an opportunity for us to go out there and put right what we need to.

“It’s the perfect game for us to do that. We know if we don’t do it we’ll be up against a top-class team that can hurt you.

“We certainly don’t want to be going out there and not doing a good job, we want to put our best foot forward to represent ourselves, Super League and this part of the world.”
