“ALL good things must come to an end” is the common expression.

This trip certainly has been one of those and I felt a strong sense of sadness as I woke up for my final few hours in Tenerife.

No sleeping through alarms this time, I was up at 7.30 for breakfast at 8am. After a recovery swim in the morning, the lads had a day off so spirits in the camp were high.

As the team went up to T3, I thought going up with them would be a bit risky if we were to catch our taxi to the airport.

All checked out and passport retrieved from reception (I had been panicking about where it was at various points before realising they had it) it was time for the journey home to begin in earnest.

The players were arriving back in dribs and drabs as we left and there were warm wishes from all of them. I hope they enjoyed having me!

Stuart Pearce was with us as he was flying back to Gatwick and one thing you realise very quickly about travelling with an English football icon is that you never go anywhere fast!

Plenty of people were stopping him for photos but, to be fair to Stuart, he was gracious and welcoming to every single person who approached him!

The plane wasn’t full, meaning there was a bit more room to breathe for the four-and-a-half hour (!!!!) flight home.

Not that I needed space to sleep! One of my redeeming features is being able to nod off wherever I’m sat down and, once again, I dozed through the whole flight.

Now, I should probably tell you that I had decided to get one last wear out of my shorts before they were consigned to the cupboard for summer. I did think about jeans, but shorts won the day.

As soon as I stepped off the plane at Manchester, it was a decision I regretted. It was FREEZING!

I guess it’s my own fault for not having a bit of forsight!

And so, as I sit on the train typing my final diary entry, I look back on the last few days with a great sense of gratitude.

Wolves did not have to allow me into their inner circle for this valuable trip, they could have kept everything under wraps but their decision to let me see the work that goes into the on-pitch product up close speaks volumes about the kind of club they are.

So, to everyone at Warrington Wolves, a huge, huge thank you on behalf of myself and the Warrington Guardian for having me!

I do hope you’ve enjoyed the diary as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it! The lads are out in the sun for another week (jammy beggars) so look out for updates from that.

Also, keep an eye on the next few editions of the Guardian for some of the fantastic content gathered on the trip!
