KURT Gidley is confident he will enjoy a successful partnership with new signing Kevin Brown in the halves for Wolves.

The England international is expected to be the new half-back partner for the Australian.

Gidley, who has represented New South Wales and Australia in an illustrious career, says he is impressed by what he has seen so far from playing against his new teammate.

“I’m able to tell straight away that Kev is a very talented player,” he said.

“He was a massive player for Widnes and has had a couple of great years there. He was directing the team around the park and calling the plays.

“It sounds like he’s a real leader and can add more leadership qualities to help us out a lot.

“It will take a bit of time for him to learn our plays but once he does, I’m confident he will be a great asset to us.

“I haven’t had the chance to meet him properly yet but I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Brown provides Wolves with a different style in the pivots, with 2016 Grand Final starter Dec Patton also representing an option for Tony Smith.

While some fans fear the respective styles of Brown and Gidley will clash, the latter believes this will not be an issue.

The 34-year-old also thinks the former Vikings captain’s arrival will only aid the development of homegrown star Patton.

“Kev will give us something different to what we had last year but it won’t make us a worse team,” he said.

“I actually think we’ll work really well together once we’ve played a bit and got to know each other’s games.

“We’ve got some really good depth in the halves now and a strong squad overall.

“Dec Patton will have a big part to play as well like he did last year. He’s got a big future in the game.

“Having people like Kev and myself around can help him grow as a player and I’ll be looking to help him as best I can.”
