WILLIE Poching and Richard Marshall are eyeing head coach roles next season.

The pair will leave Warrington Wolves at the end of the current campaign, with Richard Agar stepping into the vacant position.

Former Samoa head coach Poching feels the time is right to challenge himself as a Super League boss.

“It’s a change I needed as well as the club and something I’m looking forward to,” said the ex-Leeds and Wakefield second-rower.

“As of yet I don’t know what my next move will be, I’m being quite selective about it but ideally a Super League coach, that’s my ambition.

“I feel like I’m ready to have a crack and you never really know until you do, but I’m ready to see whether I’m good enough.

“I’ve done my apprenticeship under some very good people and at a good organisation.”

But the 40-year-old, who joined his old Leeds boss Tony Smith at Warrington in 2010, is keen to leave Wolves on a high and said: “I have loved every minute of being at Warrington.

“The plan is to finish off what we started, we’re still in two competitions, there are still a lot of goals and we want to put our best foot forward to achieve the goals we set out together.”

Former under 20s coach Marshall, who has spent six years at the club, will take time to assess his options before committing to a role elsewhere.

“I’ve had a great time working with Tony and Willie and the other coaches,” he said. “I was delighted to see the younger players coming through and eight of those I worked with played in the Grand Final in 2012.

“It’s really pleasing the development is there and the future looks good for the players coming through.

“Tony (Smith) has given us lots of opportunities to work with first grade players, the media, reviews and analysis so it’s a really good grounding and I look forward to taking that to the next level.

“I’ve got the rest of the season with Warrington and I have ambitions to be a head coach at some stage.”

Boss Smith expects the pair to go on and realise those ambitions in the near future.

“It’s the right time for Richard and Willie,” he said.

“They’ve been terrific, both have ambitions to become head coaches – certainly they’ll get fine references from myself and everybody involved in the club.”
