Macclesfield 3rd 12 Lymm 2nd 62

LYMM'S fast open rugby in the first half ran Macclesfield ragged.

A 45-0 lead was established by the interval in the Cotton Traders Championship.

Good support play and recycling ended with James Pitcher spotting a large gap in the defence to go over unopposed from 15 metres for the first try, with Tom Shard converting.

From the restart, Lymm were back on the attack dominating the lineout through James Yates and Will Baldwin.

It was from a lineout that the ball was moved right and Sam Fisher came in from full-back to put Jorge Reynolds over for an unconverted try in the corner.

Lymm kept the pressure on and after some good offloading Zac Lythgoe ghosted in from 22 metres, Shard converting.

There was no let up with Lymm keeping the ball alive and supporting well, leading to further scores from Reece Forrest, Jorge Reynolds, Kieran O'Callaghan and James Yates, with three being converted by Shard.

The second half started badly though as Macclesfield drove into the Lymm 22 and used their dominant scrum to encamp close to the line. Lymm repelled them but eventually to their credit they forced a try.

Lymm struggled for possession and their intensity dropped as Macclesfield began to play a forward orientated game.

However, from a breakout Forrest crossed for an unconverted try.

Macclesfield again forced their way over but it was Lymm who had the last word as they recovered some composure to score two tries from distance through Reynolds and Richie McEvoy, with Shard converting one.

Lymm travel again to Macclesfield on Saturday for another league game.
