Stockport 2nd 7 Lymm 2nd 53

WITH the first team not in action, the way was clear for Lymm’s seconds to take centre stage on Saturday.

They did just that with a dominant display at Stockport to continue along their merry way at the top of the Cotton Traders Championship.

Full-back Luke Richards stole the show, notching four tries as Lymm recorded their 13th win from 14 league games so far, while Jake Davies crossed the whitewash twice.

Kieran O’Callaghan, Josh Davies and Aaron Rashid grabbed a try each, while Rhys Jones kicked four conversions.

Lymm were attacking up a sizeable slope in the first half, but they made light of that perceived disadvantage after surviving some early Stockport pressure.

O’Callaghan peeled off the back of a rolling maul to crash over for the opener, before Jake Davies claimed Jones’ perfectly-judged kick to put the visitors 10-0 up.

Richards then entered the fray and broke free before handing on to James Robinson, who handed back to the full-back for a superb long-range effort.

Josh Davies dummied his way over before Richards’ second gave the visitors a comfortable 29-0 lead at the break.

Richards begun the second half as he finished the first, fielding the ball on half way before weaving through a crowd of players to complete his hat-trick.

Stockport finally got themselves on the board with a long-distance try, but the game was all but over at that point and Lymm went on to further establish their dominance.

O’Callaghan’s rampaging run resulted in Jake Davies doubling his tally by diving over in the corner and shortly after that, Rashid crossed to get them close to the half-century mark.

Fittingly, it was Richards who nudged them past 50 and round off the scoring, crashing over to complete a memorable day for himself and his teammates.

The team’s next fixture sees them take on third-placed Wirral at Crouchley Lane on Saturday.

Lymm: K O'Callaghan, A Stewart, N Ashton, L Coates, B Rees, J Yates, J Lewis, A Rashid; T Baker, R Jones; J Hamer, Josh Davies, J Robinson, Jake Davies, L Richards. Subs: J Reynolds, J Pitcher, R Forrest.

Meanwhile, Lymm’s first team were not in action as an unplayable pitch at their home ground saw their Northern Premier game against Hull postponed.

They travel to face an improving Birkenhead Park on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.
