Warrington 10 Blackburn 23

HEAD coach Andy Roberts says Warrington were ‘their own worst enemy’ in Saturday’s defeat to Blackburn.

The loss means Warrington dropped to seventh in the North One West, but still only two points behind third-placed Firwood Waterloo.

“We were out-muscled today,” he said.

“However, we were probably our own worst enemy with our inability to finish.

“Hopefully, we can vent our frustration on Manchester next week.”

Early on, Tom Arnold knocked on with the line at his mercy and Nathan Beesley had a try ruled out by the referee, all before Blackburn took the lead with a penalty.

The visitors then bustled over for a try before Hockenhull got Warrington on the board with a penalty, but Blackburn replied with a kick of their own on the stroke of half-time.

Two more tries gave Blackburn a comfortable cushion, but Warrington did at least have the last word as Max Caldwell’s kick was seized upon by Beesley, who touched down in the corner.

Warrington travel to Manchester on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Burnage 2nd 31 Warrington 2nd 15

DESPITE scoring more tries than their hosts in the first half, Warrington’s seconds succumbed to defeat on Saturday.

Hosts Burnage raced into an early 10-0 lead, but Matt Rockey crossed from Craig Byrne’s break before Matt Bayliss powered over.

However, it was penalties that kept Warrington in arrears as Burnage took a 19-15 lead into the break before storming clear in the second half.

Morley u14 12 Warrington u14 15

WARRINGTON’S under 14s inflicted a first defeat of the season upon Morley, defying a two-hour traffic delay in the process.

Despite Rorio Zheng’s try, Warrington trailed 12-5 but further scores from Leo Zheng and Charlie Bancroft secured the victory for the visitors.

“The player's concentration through fatigue was good,” said Mike Entwistle, the team’s fitness coach.

“Being able to beat their opponents for pace and with ball in hand, after defending for long periods on a heavy pitch, was testament to their fitness and ball-work training.”
