Lymm 22 Sandal 8

A LYMM victory, coupled with defeat for rivals Hull, saw them jump up to second place in the Northern Premier on Saturday.

Adam Fletcher’s side picked up a crucial four-try bonus point as Cormac Nolan crossed twice to go with further efforts from James Kimber and Scott Redfern.

Lymm’s move up the table came after Hull were beaten at leaders Preston Grasshoppers, who now sit a mammoth 14 points clear of the Crouchley Lane side.

The hosts flew out of the traps and raced into a 10-point lead.

Skipper Adam Bray made a strong break before finding the supporting Kimber to score the first try, which was followed soon after by Nolan winning the race to touch down a clever kick from Redfern.

However, the visitors would have the better of proceedings after that and got the try their efforts deserved when Stephen Nolan raced through from Gregory Wood’s pass.

After the break, both sides petered out in attack but it was the hosts who found the crucial next score.

Redfern started and finished a move that also involved Nolan and Kimber, and full-back Nolan was on hand to add the conversion.

Sandal kicked a penalty to narrow the gap, but Lymm got their pivotal fourth try by stretching the visiting defence over several phases to create a gap for Nolan to dive over in the corner.

Fletcher’s side make the short trip to face Wirral on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Lymm 2nd 26 Wilmslow 2nd 13

LYMM’S seconds came from behind to get the better of their Wilmslow counterparts in what turned out to be an arm-wrestle of a game at Crouchley Lane.

After Wilmslow had taken an early lead, Rhys Jones crossed and converted to ensure Lymm went into half-time level at 7-7.

The visitors kicked two penalties to open out an advantage after the break, but Paddy Jennings’ try reduced the deficit to just one point.

Tom Baker crashed over to give Lymm the lead for the first time before Jack Worton sealed the win by crossing with the last play of the game, with Jones converting both tries.
