Lymm 21 Kirkby Lonsdale 14

IN their first ever meeting with Kirkby Lonsdale, Lymm remained unbeaten in the Northern Premier but failed to add a bonus point to their win.

Matty Connelly, Tom Bray and Rich McEvoy crossed the whitewash for Adam Fletcher’s men at Crouchley Lane, with Cormac Nolan converting all three tries.

Lymm created several openings in both halves, but failed to add to their three tries.

Despite the lack of a four-try bonus point, number eight Oli Higginson says Lymm were simply happy to leave the field with their unbeaten record intact.

“We made hard work of it to be honest and it was all a bit scrappy,” he said.

“I think we were happy to come off the pitch with four points but left the bonus point out there by missing a few tries.”

The visitors capped a good start with the opening try after 10 minutes, but that sparked Lymm into life.

Their pressure created an attacking lineout and space for Connelly to barge his way over, with Nolan’s conversion levelling the scores.

The hosts created a number of opportunities to take the lead and finally took one when Bray charged down a kick and won the race to the ball before sprinting clear to touch down.

Bray’s try gave his side a seven-point lead at the break, but that grew to 14 after the restart when another nice move created space to McEvoy to chip through and touch down.

Kirkby Lonsdale’s well-executed rolling maul got them over the line to reduce Lymm’s lead to seven with 10 minutes remaining, but Fletcher’s side held on for victory.

They travel to Rossendale on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Wilmslow 2nd 5 Lymm 2nd 27

A TRIP to unbeaten Wilmslow was billed as the toughest test so far for Lymm’s rampant seconds, but it was one they passed with flying colours.

Early pressure resulted in Reece Forrest stepping inside to open the scoring, with Tom Shard adding the first of his three successful conversions.

Wilmslow hit back with a try of their own, but that was the only time the hosts troubled the scorers.

Richard Halford powered over to extend Lymm’s lead before Forrest grabbed his second try in the corner, with both efforts converted by Shard.

The second half was a quieter affair, but Shard kept the scoreboard ticking over with two penalties to complete the victory.
