THE Aviva Premiership Rugby final may still be eight months away but youngsters from Warrington RUFC are already counting down the days.

That is thanks to their efforts and skill in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

Warrington under 11s and 12s teams contested the competition at Manchester Rugby Club, hosted by Sale Sharks.

The under 11s players secured the opportunity to appear at next May’s Aviva Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham, where they will take part in a special half-time parade.

“The tournament has been absolutely amazing. I’m made up for everyone at the club and the difference an outing to Twickenham will make for the boys will be incredible – we’ve never been as a team before,” said Warrington coach Paul Flannery.

“It really does make a difference to junior players coming through at this level – and this will certainly give us a real boost ahead of the rest of the season.”

More than 40 teams in the two age groups took part in the festival, including Lymm RFC.

But Warrington took the main prize and, as well as taking part in parade next year, they can also look forward to meeting a Land Rover rugby ambassador at Twickenham.

They got a taste of rubbing shoulders with rugby’s elite when they met Sharks players Paolo Odogwu and Jake Pope in Manchester.

Odogwu admitted he had been impressed with what he had seen.

“It’s been great coming down to watch all the kids – it takes me back to when I first started getting into rugby at my secondary school,” said the winger.

LYMM'S under 12s competed in the same competition at Manchester and were denied by the narrowest of margins.

Having made it through the groups, Lymm faced a strong Stratford-upon-Avon team in the Plate final.

With the game finishing 1-1, Stratford won the game via countback from group stage points.
