FORMER Lymm Rugby Club player Alex Mitchell helped England to the final of the World Rugby U20 Championships in Georgia.

Scrum-half Mitchell, a former Lymm High School student, came off the bench to score a try in the Tbilisi showpiece, but England were hammered 64-17 by New Zealand on Sunday.

Mitchell also scored during a dramatic 24-22 semi-final victory over South Africa and finished the tournament having scored four tries in five appearances.

He had previously crossed the whitewash in England’s pool matches against Samoa and Wales.

The 20-year-old, who also attended St Wilfrid’s Primary School in Grappenhall, plays his club rugby for Northampton Saints but first discovered the game at Lymm at the age of five, representing the club until he was 17.

His Lymm highlights include scoring a try at Twickenham to help the Under 11s win the National Championships.

Mitchell graduated to the Sale Sharks academy before joining his current club in 2015.
