LYMM’S senior colts team claimed their third trophy of a magnificent season as they lifted the Cheshire Cup.

A comfortable victory over Caldy earned them the silverware and the wheels were put in motion when a lineout move was finished by James Pitcher’s dive over the line.

Lymm took control of the match, with their forwards securing quick ball to allow the hard-running backs to continually puncture the Caldy defence.

Will Titherington and Ruaidhri Power were beneficiaries as they both scored tries to give the Beechwood side a 19-0 lead at the break.

Despite having a man red-carded after the interval, Caldy were able to score a consolation try, but Lymm already had the game wrapped up by then.

Titherington had crossed twice to complete a hat-trick of tries, with his three conversions making it a 21-point personal haul for the fly-half.

The team still have the chance to make it an unprecedented quadruple when they welcome Chester to Beechwood in the Raging Bull League Cup Final on Sunday, kick off 3.30pm.

IN a highly competitive National Cup Final, Lymm’s junior colts could not quite get the better of an experienced Tonbridge side.

Lymm travelled to Sixways Stadium, home of Premiership outfit Worcester Warriors, for a game that was streamed live on England Rugby TV.

After going 14-0 down in the first 15 minutes, Lymm fought back brilliantly and trailed 17-12 at the interval.

The second half saw the sides swap tries as the game could have gone either way at 17-24, but Tonbridge stretched away in the final quarter.

Lymm’s tries were scored by J Murphy, T Leatherbarrow and R Foster, while G Hughes kicked one conversion.

Putting Lymm’s achievement of reaching the final into perspective, only three teams from this region have contested the showpiece occasion in 17 years.

That in itself is something to remember in the 2016-2017 season, alongside Lymm winning the North Championship and Raging Bull A League.
