WARRINGTON'S thirds were in the hunt until the closing stages.
In a clash between the top and bottom sides in North West Intermediate League Division Two South, the game was a closely contested affair between two well-matched sides.
Northwich were the first to score by virtue of a driving maul but Warrington replied with a penalty from veteran Kevin Jones shortly before half time.
The second half saw Warrington totally in defensive mode, with Sam Bennett, Paul Tierney and Phil Lyons outstanding.
Although the pace of Nathan Beesley continually threatened to bring results, it was Northwich who finally closed out the game with a catch and drive, converted try from a lineout.
