Eagle 19 Heaton Moor 16

EAGLE were able to mark their annual President’s Day in style as a last-gasp Dan Pucill try earned them victory over Heaton Moor.

In what was a mouth-watering clash between two sides near the bottom of the South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two table, the visitors held an 8-0 half-time lead thanks to a penalty and an unconverted try.

However, despite Moor continuing to put points on the board, Eagle’s never-say-die attitude was keeping the healthy crowd at Thornton Road interested.

Dave Heathwood and Ben Mercer crossed for tries, with Jay Jackson adding the conversion on both occasions as the hosts closed the gap to just two points.

With time running out, Pucill broke down the blind side and slid over with the final play of the match.

While still remaining bottom, Eagle are now just four points behind Oldershaw ahead of Saturday’s visit to high-flying Hoylake, kick off 2.15pm.
