Warrington 2nd 47 Rossendale 2nd 18

WITH the first team enjoying a weekend off, the seconds took full advantage of centre stage with a superb showing against league leaders Rossendale.

The hosts ran in six tries at Walton Lea Road, five of them converted by Ben Dixon, as Shaun McDermott’s side made it three wins in a row since the turn of the year.

Luke Gilooly got on the end of McDermott’s cross-field kick for the opening try after just two minutes before Craig Byrne rampaged through the Rossendale defence for the second score.

The visitors narrowed the gap slightly with a penalty goal, but Warrington continued to turn on the style and ran in three tries in a ten-minute blitz to effectively kill the game.

First, Jack Hannon took advantage of quick ball from a line-out to carve his way to the line before Gilooly showed his pace to scorch up the touchline to score his second try.

Rossendale broke up the scoring with their first try of the game, but there was time for one more Warrington score before the break when Byrne and Gilooly combined to send Dixon strolling home.

The hosts started the second half as they finished the first as Will Maudsley crossed before Rossendale responded with two unconverted tries of their own.

However, Warrington would have the last laugh as Maudsley ran in his second to put the cap on a superb victory.

The team will look to back it up when they face the same opponents away from home on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Aldwinians 2nd 33 Warrington 3rd 10

A YOUNG Warrington side proved no match for a more experienced Aldwinians outfit as the Manchester side claimed a comfortable win.

Warrington’s only points of the first half came through an Andy Almond penalty as the hosts took a 14-3 lead into the break.

The visitors threatened a comeback when Alex Marland finished off six excellent phases to drive through under the posts, but the hosts notched up 19 unanswered points to seal victory.

WARRINGTON’S first team return to action on Saturday when they welcome Eccles to Walton Lea Road, kick off 2.15pm.

Andy Roberts’ side host the North One West’s bottom side hoping to bounce back from their 48-0 hammering at runaway league leaders Kirkby Lonsdale on January 14.
