Blackburn 17 Warrington 0

PLAYER-COACH Andy Roberts said his Warrington side were "out of sorts" as they failed to trouble the scorers on a miserable afternoon in Blackburn on Saturday.

The defeat was Warrington's third in succession and they currently sit ninth in the North One West table.

They welcome struggling Leigh to Walton Lea Road on Saturday, kick off 3pm, and Roberts says his side must learn lessons from the Blackburn defeat.

"You can expect a game like this once a season," he said.

"We were obviously totally out of sorts today and hopefully we can get back on track when we face Leigh."

The visitors gave away around a stone per man in weight to their hosts and Blackburn quickly made their physical advantage pay, scoring two tries through driving mauls.

Tom Arnold had an opportunist score disallowed for Warrington, who also had Tom Green sin-binned.

"What a game, and what a team effort," skipper Shaun Yoxhall said.

"Every single person played their part today, from the wing strike force to the front row."

They travel to face Fylde thirds on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Northwich Seconds 35 Warrington Thirds 3

SKIPPER Tony Fretwell was proud of the performance of his side despite falling to defeat against a strong Northwich outfit.

A Pat Roberts penalty was the only time a young Warrington side troubled the scorers, but Fretwell remained upbeat.

"Words cannot convey how proud I am of this young side’s performance today," he said.

They entertain league leaders Glossop seconds on Saturday.
