WARRINGTON coach Andy Roberts was happy with the display of his young side during a defeat on Saturday in a pre-season game at Llandudno.

A team that travelled across the border was missing most of its big guns, but they learned valuable lessons against hosts that were too big and strong.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, the Warrington side exhibited skills in defence they had worked hard on in training.

“I was pleased with the way our young lads took on a difficult task, especially as we took took the field with just one recognised first-teamer in the backs and only three who are regulars among our forwards,” said Roberts.

“All of them will have benefitted from playing above their normal level, and we’ve established we have strength in depth.

“We can look forward to a good season for all of our senior sides.”

Warrington’s next pre-season test is against Caldy on Saturday week, August 27.

They start a new season in North One West seven days later when promoted St Helens side West Park are their guests, kick off 3pm.
